ESUP-Portail Helpdesk
Overview
The goal of esup-helpdesk is to offer a complete solution to handle user-support at establishment-level. It is highly configurable, close to the IS (LDAP/uPortal groups and attributes) and internationalized (currently French and English bundles). A presentation of the application was done in last June in Denver (v2, seehttp://perso.univ-rennes1.fr/pascal.aubry/presentations/helpdesk-jasigSummer2007).
History
esup-helpdesk was born at IFSIC (a department of the University of Rennes 1) in 1999, and it had been adapted for the whole University of Rennes 1 in 2001. It was rewritten in 2004 as a uPortal channel in Java (v1 was in PHP) and distributed by the ESUP-Portail consortium among the French community. v2 is now used by more than 30 French universities and other institutions. v3 is based on esup-commons, the development framework used by the new applications developped in our consortium. It relies on JSF for the MVC part and the presentation and Spring for the bean management, and can be deployed as a portlet or a servlet (using exactly the same code). It is currently tested by my University, will be used in production in about 2 weeks, and then distributed to all the French community. There were 2 full-time developpers in 2004 (Alexandre Boisseau who left to the University of Brest in 2005 and I), and 6 institutions contributed (added new features and corrected a few bugs).
