[10:17:55 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> ah, nothing like early morning CAS reboots for a lousy kernel patch
[10:18:19 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> I'm starting to think that a cluster of CAS 3.1 boxes would be worth the effort if I get to sleep in
[10:19:19 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> (smile)
[10:19:24 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> probably
[10:19:29 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> even a cluster of just 2 boxes
[10:20:43 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> exactly
[10:20:51 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> which oddly enough is how many we actually have
[10:21:02 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> but I'm thinking about putting cas on our new VMWare thingy
[10:21:17 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> a cluster of clusters, or something like that
[10:21:39 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> Then the only fail point will be a meteor striking campus!
[10:21:45 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> lol
[10:21:53 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> gotta watch for the interstellar debris
[10:21:58 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> totally.
[10:22:26 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> you should see the laser system we're building to shoot stuff out of the sky
[10:23:06 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> The DOD called up and was, you can't do that, and we're like you know what students are like when they can't see their class schedule? Yeah. It's that bad.
[10:23:07 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> crazy californians
[10:23:14 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> (I know I lived out there)
[10:23:30 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> This was back in the Rumsfeld days of course
[10:23:50 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> The new guy is fully behind our plan, as long as the Pentagon can outsource a few targets
[10:24:00 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> No, I haven't had enough sleep. Why do you ask?
[10:32:54 EDT(-0400)] <esm> lol
[10:32:57 EDT(-0400)] <esm> what is wrong with this code?
[10:32:58 EDT(-0400)] <esm> Date sStart = s.getEndDate();
[10:32:58 EDT(-0400)] <esm> Date sEnd = s.getStartDate();
[10:33:08 EDT(-0400)] <esm> I jsut spent 10 minutes puzzling over a failed unit test
[10:34:42 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> Obviously this is a trick question.
[10:35:18 EDT(-0400)] <esm> heh i was digging into all my service layers trying to figgure it out
[10:35:41 EDT(-0400)] <esm> sStart = s.getEnd...
[10:35:52 EDT(-0400)] <esm> using the wrong method to initialize the variable :/
[10:35:56 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> heh
[10:36:04 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> man, I'm so sleepy I didn't catch that...
[10:36:04 EDT(-0400)] <esm> had 'em backwards
[10:36:08 EDT(-0400)] <esm> d'oh
[10:36:09 EDT(-0400)] <esm> oh
[10:36:15 EDT(-0400)] <esm> well at least you have an excuse
[10:36:24 EDT(-0400)] <esm> i didn't get up till 9am (EST)
[10:36:40 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> did you start reading your code outloud?
[10:36:47 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> sometimes that triggers something in my brain
[10:37:46 EDT(-0400)] <esm> sometimes I do, I at least read it out loud in pseudo code
[10:37:50 EDT(-0400)] <esm> i regularly do that
[10:38:16 EDT(-0400)] <esm> ok! off to realtor meetings.
[10:38:27 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> a fate worse than death
[10:38:32 EDT(-0400)] <esm> (smile)
[10:38:39 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> I feel for you man
[10:38:41 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> been there...

[12:50:53 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> wow, e-mail to the list only gets two out of office replies
[12:51:03 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> EricDalquist must have purged all the otheres
[12:51:18 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> (smile)
[12:51:24 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> I enjoy scolding people for those
[12:51:31 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> I have an email template all set up just for them
[12:51:42 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> heh
[12:51:57 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> wow, one of the WebCT admins called OS X a "toy OS"
[12:51:58 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> in jest
[12:52:01 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> but still...

[13:26:44 EDT(-0400)] <apetro_work_desk> really, you pester people about their out of office replies?
[13:26:55 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> yup
[13:27:05 EDT(-0400)] <apetro_work_desk> I figure they're a decent way of picking up sales contacts. Wouldn't be ethical for me to go administratively look at the membership
[13:27:14 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> if I get oops on lists I email them and politely ask them to fix it
[13:27:24 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> lol
[13:27:37 EDT(-0400)] <apetro_work_desk> but if they want to share the fact of their membership publicly, well, rabid sales sharks cannot help themselves, can they?
[13:27:37 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> er oors
[13:28:00 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> interesting stratgey
[13:28:13 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> perhaps I should add a filter to forward all the oors I get to you?
[13:28:21 EDT(-0400)] <apetro_work_desk> "Not only can Unicon help you set up your email auto-replies, just think what we can do for the rest of your IT stack."
[13:29:16 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> wow
[13:29:59 EDT(-0400)] <apetro_work_desk> See, Patrick's sold. Drew will have to head out there for another month or so.
[13:30:51 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> I don't think Drew would mind. The brewery was a hit with him (wink)
[13:31:23 EDT(-0400)] <apetro_work_desk> I'm just punch drunk from playing with this ALM stuff. Drawing to a successful close, looks like. A few pointed fixes and you get less layout corruption, more stability, more sanity.
[13:32:33 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> ALM! Now with 20% more sanity!
[13:32:59 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> 20% * 0 == 0 ?
[13:33:18 EDT(-0400)] <pberry> we can put that in the fine print
[13:33:25 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> (smile)
[13:35:20 EDT(-0400)] <apetro_work_desk> yeah. ALM's fun to beat up on. But part of what's sad here is that even a few hours of concentrated maintenance and it would have saved an awful lot of deployers an awful lot of pain. How many people have had their fragments inexplicably eaten by that bug for which there'd been a fix available in Jira for quite a while ?
[13:35:37 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> very true
