Studying portal usability

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has generously posted their usability studying tasks, questions

Questions you might ask focus groups

  • Are you part of the faculty, student, or staff?
  • Did you find nay information that seemed irrelevant in any tabs?
  • Are there any tabs that you feel should be renamed to better reflect the subject content?
  • If you could change the arrangement/layout of the content within the portal, what changes would you make?
  • Are there any tabs that you feel should not be mandatory/required tabs? If so, which ones and why?
  • Is there any content that you wish could be added to the portal? If so, under which tab would you place it?() Overall, what feeling did you get from browsing through the portal?
  • For example, aside from the portal being brand new to you, did you feel overwhelmed or did you feel that the content was well organized?
  • Did you play with the arrangement of content or add new content to your portal? If so, how comfortable did you feel subscribing to new content?
