uPortal Logo Contest

Background

Did you ever wonder who designed the uPortal logo and how it was chosen? In early June, 2000, the uPortal community had a design contest to create a logo for JA-SIG's then-brand-new uPortal project. Over 30 logos were submitted and a Zoomerang survey was distributed for people to vote on the best logo.

Winner

On June 9, 2000, the winner was announced. It was Piet Niederhausen from Georgetown whose logo received 42% of the 26 votes. His design is still used as the uPortal logo today:
