2013 Conference Fun Stuff Planning

TUESDAY

On Tuesday, June 4th, 2013, the Apereo Conference will host a number of social events for our attendees.  Each event offers a unique opportunity to experience some of the culture and cuisine of southern California while getting to mingle with a small group of fellow attendees.  Time is indicated in PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) or GMT -8 unless noted otherwise.

  • Downtown San Diego Dine Around – Dine with a group of other attendees at one of several casual restaurants in Atlanta’s vibrant downtown district.
    • These are informal dinner get-togethers for six-to-eight people each, organized by cuisine
    • Cost: $15 to $35 due at venue
    • Most are walking distance

    • Meet in the hotel lobby at either 6:15 P.M. or 7:15 P.M. (depending on restaurant)

  • Gaslamp Quarter Pub and Grub –  A favorite neighborhood for locals and visitors alike!
    • Sample the food and beverages at one of several Gaslamp Quarter pubs along with up to five other conference attendees.
    • Cost: $10 to $25 (dessert and beverages extra; paid at venue)  + $6 transportation ($1 Breeze card + $5 round-trip fare).

  • Harbor Cruise – Enjoy drinks and light hors d'oeuvres on a private cruise of the San Diego bay at sunset
  • Cost: $65 (includes two drinks)
  • Dinner after at one of several nearby casual eateries; not included in cost.
  • Meet in hotel lobby at 5:45 P.M.

  • San Diego Zoo (9 a.m.–6 p.m.)

    • Dinner with animals: 5-11pm for catered events ($12 pp park admission after 4pm) after 6pm limited to catered venue. Event Manager recomends we go with: RONDAVEL: This octagonal room has vaulted, beamed ceilings and rich earth-tones, with floor-to-ceiling picture windows overlooking an ornamental Asian garden complete with a koi pond and exotic waterfowl.

    • Not recomended. Everything will be closed and it will be dark. Could get some history of the park but would not be able to enter any of the many attractions/venues.

  • San Diego Hall of Champions.  Hours: 10 am - 4:30 pm Daily.  Admission $5 - No one on staff to provide tours. Only open until 4:30. Self-guided tour special discount rate could be given for our group but only during the regular business hours

North Bay Tour: View the North Island Naval Air Station, Harbor and Shelter Islands, the Naval Sub Base and the Cabrillo National Monument. Tour is about 12 miles in length. 1 hour narrated harbor tour.

South Bay Tour: Take in the Star of India, the U.S. Navy surface fleet, Coronado Bay Bridge and busy shipyards. Tour is about 12 miles in length. 1 hour narrated harbor tour

Full Bay Tour: Our deluxe tour covers it all: Harbor and Shelter Islands, Point Loma, Cabrillo National Monument, North Island Naval Air Station, the Submarine Base, as well as the Coronado Bridge, and much more. Tour is about 25 miles in length. 2 hour narrated harbor tour

    • Cost: $22(North or South Bay 1hr) /$27pp (Full Bay 2hr) - waiting for info on private tour that fits our hours

TASTING TUESDAYS: Sample 10 Wines for $12 Tuesdays, 5pm - 8pm ENO is pleased to introduce a unique twist on the traditional happy hour experience. Each Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm, ENO sommeliers offer guests the opportunity to sample 10 wines for just $12. This fun experience is perfect for individuals or groups of people who want to learn more about their favorite wines or just love sampling different flavors. Enjoy the California sunset out on the outdoor patio with fire pits overlooking the Pacific. Self-parking for 3 hours is validated with minimum purchase.

 

Caorlina Cruise — 7 to 14 passsengers: $29 per person.A gondola cruise family style through the canals and waterways of the Coronado Cays. Seven to 14 passengers can ride together on one boat. This cruise includes a complimentary appetizer or dessert platter. Blankets, an ice bucket, and wine glasses are provided. Guests are invited to bring their own beverage. Each cruise is 50 minutes. (18% gratuity will be added)

 Fleet Cruise — 7 to 44 passengers: $25 per person. Celebrate a special occasion with family, friends, or co-workers while traveling side by side on as many as six gondolas. Excellent for work parties, holiday celebrations, and weddings. With our six gondolas, The Gondola Company can accommodate groups of up to 44 people at once. Larger groups can also be accommodated. (18% gratuity will be added)

The San Diego National Comedy Theatre show is an improv comedy show featuring professional comedians who perform  a series of scenes - all based on audience suggestion. Furthermore, the shows are CLEAN and appropriate for all audiences!

Join us for a lively evening as we share our design approaches, methods, practices and insight to better design with users at the forefront. This will suit you if you are:
    1. Struggling to get people engaged with an interface your team are currently working on or implementing.
    2. Looking to validate your work and capability before releasing it into the world.
    3. Wanting to push your interface and apps to new levels, giving people experiences that surpass expectations.

On Wednesday, June 13th, 2012, the Apereo Conference will provide two more opportunities to get acquainted with fellow attendees.  Time is indicated in EDT (Eastern Daylight Time) or GMT -4.

  • Show Your Colors!  - Bring a conference appropriate shirt to wear during the day Wednesday that bears your institution’s symbol and/or colors.
  • Karaoke - Share a drink and a song with your fellow attendees at the ???
    • Cost: No cover; food and beverages not included and due at venue.
