2006 JA-SIG Summer Conference: Gateways and Pathways

The next JA-SIG conference will be Sunday through Tuesday, 4-6 June 2006 at Westin Bayshore Resort and Marina, Vancouver, BC, Canada. The conference is now open for registration and the program committee is accepting proposals for presentations. Details are available at http://www.ja-sig.org/conferences/06summer/index.html.

Program Suggestions

The Gateways and Pathways program is currently in a planning stage and the committee welcomes suggestions for presentations using one of the mechanisms below.

If you have a suggestion for the general conference please add it to the General Suggestions page.

Suggestions from prior conferences are available if you wish to see them.

Presentations

Presentations can be made in a variety of formats including:
  • One-hour presentations: These presentations can be made lecture style, as a panel discussion, as a roundtable discussion, as a design review / feedback session or in a number of other formats. A short description of you selected format is appreciated when you submit your proposal. Please keep in mind that it is always a good idea to build in time for questions and answers for the audience, typically 10-15 minutes is sufficient.
  • Birds of a Feather (BOFs): These informal discussions will occur during one timeslot within the program. Attendees interested in your topic of discussion will join you at a table to share experiences, ask questions and provide feedback.
  • Kiosk Demonstrations: A number of kiosks will be set up in the foyer spaces of the conference area and can be reserved for 30 minute time slots during the refreshment break periods. At these kiosks, demonstrators "show-and-tell" about their various projects and can solicit feedback and answer questions for fellow attendees.

Watch This Space

The JA-SIG Spring 2008 conference planning committee will be using the blogging/news
feature of the wiki to publish newsworthy announcements related to the conference.

On Saturday Chris Doyle and I rented kayaks from Ecomarine on Granville island and did a short paddle in False Creek. We both thought that the Granville Island Market area looks like a great place to explore for any conference attendees with a little extra time. It was about a $12CA cab ride each way.

Check it out.

2006 Portlet Showcase

JA-SIG is offering a portlet showcase during the June 2006 conference (Gateways and Pathways) - complete with a prize for the best portlet. Participants will have about 10 minutes to show/demonstrate their portlet in front of an audience of interested attendees. The members of the audience will then vote to elect the best portlet. The winning portlet will receive the prestigious JA-SIG Best Portlet Award at the closing session.
