06winter Compelling uses of CWebProxy and CGenericXSLT
SusanBramhall actually presented a presentation along these lines at the Wintoer 2006 conference in Atlanta.
The YaleInfo approach and experience with CGenericXSLT and CWebProxy would make a wonderful JA-SIG conference presentation.
Could cover pushing the the boundaries on what can be accomplished with CGenericXSLT and slightly clever XSLTs that include links that in turn instruct the channel to consume another XML or XSLT. Neat library channels are implemented this way.
Subscribe-time-parameters and custom CPDs to deliver a configuration and subscription UI for an RSS reader without a new IChannel or Portlet – just a re-use of CGenericXSLT.
There's the NetReg application's demonstration of the use of CWebProxy. Some neat pieces there about what Yale's able to do to keep network registration alive if, knock on wood, early semester load overwhelms the portal.
And then it's worth discussing that some of the custom channels YaleInfo does use, such as CMenu, are re-used in several places with slightly different subclasses to accomplish different use cases. Rather than writing new channels for each use.
