Many Student Information, Administrative, and Collaboration uPortal Channels

Cal Poly hosts a large suite of collaboration and education workflow channel interfaces built for the uPortal framework. We are in the process of updating our offerings for the clearinghouse. Please let this serve as a temporary placeholder for individual postings.

The following is a partial list of uPortal-related applications and technologies available to JA-SIG members upon request:

  • Admissions Status (multiple channels): used to report status to University applicants and facilitate matriculation
  • CP Announcements & Announcements Admin: for CP Announcements
  • ASI Classifieds Channel: displays latest postings; links to proprietary DB-driven back-end
  • Ask A Librarian: provides context-sensitive Reference Desk contact info
  • Blackboard Access Channel (BB 5.x): Central Authentication Service enabled Blackboard Username Change Tool: Admin utility for BB user mgt.
  • Cal Poly Password Manager: for password mgt/synchronization across CAS-enabled systems
  • Cal Poly Poll: Vote once, instant results; past polls
  • Directory Information: online campus directory w/advanced search capabilities
  • Help Desk Email Update: admin utility for email user mgt.
  • Help Desk Password Manager: admin utility for password mgt. ITS
  • Library Hours: realtime, calendar-sensitive hours of operation
  • My Grades
  • Network Admin Firewall Pinhole Request: generates Remedy ticket to appropriate group
  • Personal Information: multi-system integrated address update tool
  • PolyCat: Library catalog search tool
  • Scholarship Application: "smart" application tool to apply for CP scholarship programs
  • Study Abroad Application: "smart" application tool to apply for CP SA programs
  • Software Download: authenticated download utility for site-licensed products
  • Student Accounts Transactions: realtime student account balance
  • UPass Log Viewer: admin log viewing utility with search support
  • Registration Status: reg status and workflow tool for Admissions and enrolled students workflow; reports status, fin aid awards, holds, registration windows, etc.
  • Course & Class Lists: provides personalized course schedules and links to Blackboard and other course-affiliated content on the Web; also provides course rosters to faculty, links to campus maps, and more
  • Media Distribution Services Checkout: provides realtime reporting concerning the availability of equipment, or combinations of equipment available for checkout via MDS; tied to proprietary backend.
  • Web Verify: utilities to allow external (non-university) parties request and obtain verification of student record information concerning enrollment, GPA, etc. Provides automated facility for confirming non-protected data and workflow to allow users to selectively approve/deny access to protected information
  • Assumed Identity logic: enables any uPortal channel to support user switching from one identity to another within a specific channel --great for administrative and technical support and accommodates self-service access control for authorized parties, audit trails, etc.

Sorry, no self-service demos are currently available within My Cal Poly. However, we are more than happy to provide a personal tour of our portal upon request via Net Meeting, VNC, or similar Web conferencing technology. By doing so, we can demonstrate a number of applications and services that are unique to special subsets of My Cal Poly users including our Admissions portal workflow, assumed identity features, and others. Demo screens of some of our uPortal applications can be found at the URL listed below.
