Fall 2008 Unconference Travel Information

This page details various transportation options for getting to the Unconference.

Ground transportation

There are several taxi companies in Madison:

There are several car rental companies serving the airport.

City bus service is available through Madison Metro. A trip planner is available here.

If you are staying at the Edgewater, hotel shuttle service is available. Call the front desk at 800-922-5512 with your arrival information. The shuttle is a silver minivan or limo with Edgewater signage. You pick it up across the drive from baggage claim door number 5 near the blue bus shelter.

If you are staying at the Doubletree, you can call their front desk at 608-251-5511 for information about their complementary shuttle service.

The hotels offer parking and are an easy walk to/from the conference center. If you need to park at the conference center, please contact Jim Helwig.

Flying into Madison

The most convenient transportation option is to fly into Madison at the Dane County Regional Airport (MSN). This airport is only six miles from campus. Transportation from the airport is available via bus, taxi or hotel shuttle (see above). The airport is newly remodeled and rarely crowded.

Flying into Milwaukee

You can also fly into Milwaukee (MKE). It is about a 1.5 hour drive on I-94 from the airport to Madison. The airport is moderate in size and not very crowded. You can either rent a car in Milwaukee or take the bus.

Badger Bus (608-255-1511) offers daily scheduled coach service to Madison and drops off at the Memorial Union, a half block from The Pyle Center.

Van Galder Bus (608-257-5593 or 800-747-0994) also provides daily service to and from the Milwaukee airport. Pick-up and drop-off is in front of the Memorial Union, a half block from The Pyle Center.

Greyhound Bus Lines (800-231-2222) also serves Madison.

Flying into Chicago

Chicago is about 2.5-3 hours from Madison via I-90. Thw two main airports are O'Hare (ORD) and Midway (MDW). Chicago traffic can be very crowded. You can either rent a car in Milwaukee or take the bus.

Van Galder Bus (608-257-5593 or 800-747-0994) provides daily round-trip service between UW-Madison's Memorial Union and Chicago's O'Hare Airport. Midway Airport and downtown Amtrak station.
