Driving Directions to the Westin

While Atlanta was founded as a railroad junction, it is today better known as a crossroads of highways, being the meeting point of interstates I-20, I-75, and I-85.  If you will be driving to Atlanta, please review the following directions ahead of time to make your visit as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

As with all major cities, Atlanta has a pretty heavy rush hour period from 7 AM to 10 AM and from 4 PM to 7 PM.  If at all possible, try to time your travel to avoid those periods.

If you are traveling with at least one other person, you can utilize the HOV lanes on I-20 and I-75 to avoid some of the traffic and hopefully speed up your travel.  Do be aware, however, that the HOV lanes on I-85 are now HOT toll lanes and can only be used with the purchase of a PeachPass device.  Unless you already own a PeachPass, your should just avoid those lanes completely.

You should also be aware that Atlanta has a complete bypass loop called I-285.  There should be no need to get onto I-285 if you are coming from out-of-town, but it can be a handy alternative route if you are ever passing through Atlanta and want to avoid downtown traffic.

Approaching Atlanta from I-75 Southbound (coming from Chattanooga and beyond)

1. Continue southbound past I-285.  About eight miles later, I-85 will merge with I-75 -- stay in the lanes for I-75/I-85 southbound.
2. Exit I-75 at Courtland Street: Exit #249A (one-way road going southbound)
3. Proceed to the third traffic signal and turn right onto International Blvd (one-way road going westbound)
4. Proceed three blocks, going through the Peachtree Road intersection.  
5. The Westin entrance is on the left, just past Peachtree Street

Approaching Atlanta from I-75 Northbound (coming from South Georgia or Florida)

1. Continue northbound past I-285.  About three miles later, I-85 will merge with I-75 -- stay in the lanes for I-75/I-85 northbound.
2. About four miles later, you will cross I-20 and continue northbound on I-75/I-85
3. About one mile north of I-20, take Exit #248C to International Blvd, which is a westbound one-way road.
4. Proceed westbound past Piedmont Ave, Courtland St, Peachtree Center Ave, and Peachtree Street.
5. The Westin entrance is on the left, just past Peachtree Street

Approaching Atlanta from I-85 Southbound (coming from South Carolina and beyond)

1. Continue southbound past I-285.  About eight miles later, GA 400 will merge with I-85 -- stay in the lanes for I-85 southbound.
2. About two miles later, I-75 will merge with I-85 -- stay in the lanes for I-75/I-85 southbound.
3. Exit I-75 at Courtland Street: Exit #249A (one-way road going southbound)
4. Proceed to the third traffic signal and turn right onto International Blvd (one-way road going westbound)
5. Proceed three blocks, going through the Peachtree Road intersection.  
6. The Westin entrance is on the left, just past Peachtree Street

Approaching Atlanta from I-85 Northbound (coming from Montgomery, AL and beyond)

1. When you reach I-285, you will find that I-85 does a strange merge with the I-285 lanes for about a mile, just follow the I-85 signs.
2. I-85 will fork off to the north and run past the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport - continue northbound on I-85
3. About three miles north of the airport, I-75 will merge with I-85 -- stay in the lanes for I-75/I-85 northbound.
4. About four miles later, you will cross I-20 and continue northbound on I-75/I-85
5. About one mile north of I-20, take Exit #248C to International Blvd, which is a westbound one-way road.
6. Proceed westbound past Piedmont Ave, Courtland St, Peachtree Center Ave, and Peachtree Street.
7. The Westin entrance is on the left, just past Peachtree Street

Approaching Atlanta from I-20 Eastbound (coming from Birmingham, AL and beyond)

1. Continue eastbound past I-285.  About six miles later, you will come to I-75/I-85.
2. Take Exit #57 for I-75/I-85 northbound
3. From I-75/I-85, go about one mile north and take Exit #248C to International Blvd, which is a westbound one-way road.
4. Proceed westbound past Piedmont Ave, Courtland St, Peachtree Center Ave, and Peachtree Street.
5. The Westin entrance is on the left, just past Peachtree Street

Approaching Atlanta from I-20 Westbound (coming from Augusta, GA or South Carolina)

1. Continue westbound past I-285.  About nine miles later, you will come to I-75/I-85.
2. Take Exit #57 for I-75/I-85 northbound
3. From I-75/I-85, go about one mile north and take Exit #248C to International Blvd, which is a westbound one-way road.
4. Proceed westbound past Piedmont Ave, Courtland St, Peachtree Center Ave, and Peachtree Street.
5. The Westin entrance is on the left, just past Peachtree Street
