Documention BOF Notes

We discussed most of these issues yesterday at the BOF.

Wiki

Our use of the wiki is still in the learning stage but it appears that we can, and may want to do most of what Jason has suggested on the Documentation BOF.

We discussed what should appear in the Wiki and what should appear on the official web set and the use of locked pages for final content was mentioned. Once a page is locked, however, we'll have to find a way to notify the locker that the page really needs an update.

We're currently running version 1.2 of Confluence and converting to 1.3 is a high priority as it provides a much better permissions model. We don't want to do too much with the wiki until we upgrade. At the same time, the URLs for the wiki and Jira will be changed. (Patty: could you post those URLs to the wiki somewhere?)

Modification of the templates/layout was discussed but it's something that someone will just have to play with and then vote on whether to implement. In addition to the uPortal and CAS spaces we'll be adding spaces for uPortal Channels, uPortal Portlets, and uPortal Documentation. While it wasn't mentioned in the BOF we should probably create a uPortal Wiki Development space for work on a new template.

Issue tracking

The decision was made that we will essentially migrate everything that is currently in Bugzilla into Jira and make that the official Issue tracking system. The migration plan will be similar to the migration plan as described in the documentation BOF page. (Andrew: do you want to add content for that?)

It was decided that the nominees listed on the Documentation BOF would just be added as is though we'll wait for updating to version 1.3 to do so as we were not sure if the permissions would migrate seamlessly.

We talked briefly about migrating the mailing list but we'll need someone to take a look at the process for doing so.

SSO was also discussed and since CAS is going to be a a JA-SIG project it makes a lot of sense. It also will require someone to volunteer to take a look at this.
