uPortal IRC Logs-2014-01-21
[10:11:01 CST(-0600)] <apetro__> jwennmacher , that ended up being us tripping locally over that addition of persistence.xml using the filtering in baseline uPortal that we're not yet using here at Wisconsin. So, queueing conversation about filtering in uPortal build and how Wisconsin might adopt that so as to be less different and trip less. I'll add that idea to the Google Moderator thing.
[10:13:40 CST(-0600)] <apetro__> Dunno if this deep link actually works: https://www.google.com/moderator/#15/e=20ac4d&t=20ac4d.40&f=20ac4d.6d765a&q=20ac4d.6d765a&v=4
[10:28:07 CST(-0600)] <tlev> it does work
[10:43:12 CST(-0600)] <apetro__> nice. come to think of it I could have tested that in an Incognito window. Coffee has not yet percolated through the brain this morning.
[10:49:06 CST(-0600)] <drewwills> +1 for being less different... and fwiw it runs both ways – loads of schools would like to be less different from WI as well
[10:57:00 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> apetro__ I assume you mean the Oracle db connectivity issue from a couple days ago?
[10:57:46 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> So you are saying that WI is not using maven filtering in its build process>?
[10:58:46 CST(-0600)] <tlev> we are utilizing maven filtering in our overlay process
[10:59:03 CST(-0600)] <apetro__> Yes, jwennmacher, that's the issue I was referring to. We've been off since then at Wisconsin what with the MLK holiday.
[11:48:42 CST(-0600)] <vertein> Hi jwennmacher. Did you see my question on Friday about the auto completion feature? Just curious what the 30 word summary is
[11:50:19 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> I had not.
[11:50:22 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> Looking at it now
[11:51:24 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> auto completion does a type-ahead function for search, both in the quick search and the portlet search. When you ask about the 30 word summary, what are you referring to?
[11:51:45 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> Do you mean the 2nd line of the auto-suggest responses?
[11:51:56 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> I should have said auto-suggest, not type-ahead.
[11:58:52 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> Does the image attached to https://issues.jasig.org/browse/UP-3887 answer your question?
[12:46:03 CST(-0600)] <vertein> The image does help. I was just wondering what the feature did. Thanks!
[12:58:14 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> FYI to all (I'll communicate via uportal-dev and portlet-dev as well). I'll be checking into master upgrading among other things to jQuery 1.10.2 and jQueryUI 1.10.3 along with the French-contributed upmc version of fluid (patches to run on jQuery 1.8.x). Respondr/Bootstrap 3.0 requires jQuery 1.9.x which is one driver of the change (others include a desire to get to newer versions of jQuery. This has a few known side eff
[12:58:14 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> 1. portlet and tab drag and drop do not work
[12:58:14 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> 2. Tabs do not hide properly on Newsreader and Contacts.
[12:59:19 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> The fluid team is in process of merging https://github.com/fluid-project/infusion/pull/448 which upgrades fluid to use jQuery 1.10.x. It is expected to be done in a few days.
[13:00:06 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> The thought is after this pull request is processed, to create a fluid-pre-1.5 version that is used in 4.1. The fluid team is expected to release a fluid 1.5 in a few months.
[13:00:53 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> That also gives us a chance to work with the updated fluid a bit before the official release occurs, hopefully getting in any bug fixes we find we need.
[13:01:20 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> 1. Any thoughts or concerns with this plan?
[13:02:44 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> 2. I'm thinking of updating rel-4-0-patches to the fluid upmc version from the French contribution, along with jQuery 1.8.x, also part of their contribution. We can wait on upgrading rel-4-0-patches to jQuery 1.10 until we see how it goes on master.
[13:03:06 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> Seem reasonable?
[13:53:29 CST(-0600)] <apetro__> "I'll be checking into master" – in general I'd love to see this nontrivial changes factored as feature branches that yield pull requests for review and merge, rather than direct commits to master.
[13:55:08 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> Agreed. Actually, this is most of the pull requests from auxepaul that are open right now. I was processing them, with the addition of the jquery 1.10.x change.
[13:55:33 CST(-0600)] <apetro__> aha.
[13:55:58 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> There were many excellent contributions, and several had interdependencies so I tackled them as a group.
[17:20:22 CST(-0600)] <drewwills> Woot! all gallery functions appear to be working in respondr, though it still looks terrible
[17:20:57 CST(-0600)] <jsittler> awesome! hopefully I can tackle the look and feel soon!
[17:20:57 CST(-0600)] <jwennmacher> Woot!
[17:21:34 CST(-0600)] <drewwills> was just wsging you about that actually
