SSP Pre-Installation Technical Questions
- Do you run a virtual infrastructure?
- Do you intend to install the web application on a standalone virtual instance?
- Do you intend to install the database on a standalone virtual instance?
- Does your institution have a shared database server that SSP could utilize? as the footprint of SSP is relatively small.
- Does your institution plan to allow public (internet) access to SSP?
- To facilitate the setup, we prefer to have VPN access. Can your institution provide VPN access?
- If the SSP databases are being installed on a shared database platform, we will ask that your DBA to create the initial databases, then create a database account specifically for administration of the SSP databases and a second account for the SSP application. Can your DBA assist us with this?
- The administrative database account will be created by the DBA and username and password provided. This account will have db_owner permissions on all SSP databases. This account will be used during installation and future upgrades.
- The SSP application database account will be created by the DBA and username and password provided. This account will have only data_reader and data_writer permissions on all SSP databases. This account will be used by the SSP application for connectivity to the backend data store.
- Can you provide the appropriate connection strings to utilize these databases?
- Does your institution have a preferred URL for SSP? like; https://ssp.college.edu ?
- Does your institution have a wildcard SSL certificate or an SSL certificate for the domain name/url specified above?
- Do you intend to connect SSP to an LDAP or other security directory service? Which one? Can you have the connection strings and user account information available for the install process?
- SSP sends system generated emails for error reporting, and other infrastructure related messages. Can you create or specify email accounts to receive these messages?
- SSP sends emails in the normal operation of the system to end users such as students and employees; you will need to identify the mail relay server the application should use. Do you have an email relay server? Does it have a white list or other security setup that will need configured to allow the application to send email?
