Quickstart
Just want to try out uPortal? uPortal can be downloaded pre-packaged with Apache Tomcat, Apache Ant, and Maven. This installation option is best suited for evaluation purposes only.
Source
Most development and production environments should be built from the uPortal source. The remainder of this manual will be helpful in learning how to configure, deploy, and develop for the uPortal platform. Pages in this installation section will provide information on basic uPortal build and deployment tasks.

uPortal is available for checkout via GitHub at https://github.com/Jasig/uPortal. Instructions on the GitHub workflow can be found at uPortal GitHub Overview.
Operating System-specific notes
Windows
On Windows, you must use an unzip utility other than the built-in extractor utility. See: http://www.ja-sig.org/issues/browse/UP-2024
OS X
Move /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Resources/.compatibility/14compatibility.jar
to /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Resources/.compatibility/14compatibility.bk
