[08:34:31 CST(-0600)] <apetro> this turned out to be a bad portlet-definition file for a portlet referenced in the layout. I've made a note to follow up to improve the error detection / messaging so I don't trip over this again.

[11:31:07 CST(-0600)] <apetro> while I'm at it I may add an explicit error message for when you introduce duplicate element IDs, since I tripped over that too. Though I'd be doing myself a big favor if I'd just get in the habit of editing XML in an editor that enforces the schema.
