List Purpose
Discussion of identity management topics within the Jasig context. All are welcome to join.
There are plenty of lists out there dedicated to IdM. Why a Jasig-specific list for discussing identity management topics? The answer is that we would like to consider the issues, the products, and the environment from our unique perspective, in the interests of defining the role we should play in this realm.
The success of CAS has raised the question for many of us, what should the future be for identity management within Jasig? How does CAS fit into the bigger picture? What is its place in the ecosystem of products and organizations that contribute to IdM? First and foremost, our aim is to provide an open-ended forum for addressing these questions.
Jasig's reputation has been built on a legacy of collaboration, sharing, and execution. Our Central Authentication Service is a good example of a project that embodies these attributes, in that it represents a successful community of active developers working continuously to enhance and build on a solid framework, sharing local client solutions that "just work". The end result is a set of services that work together and that have found a useful niche in higher education as well as commercial enterprise. Another question we will address is can our talents and successes in these kinds of community source endeavors be leveraged to create additional value for higher education in the IdM space?
Discussion group participants will look at other open source components in the IdM stack and how they fit together, organizations that do work in this area, and the near and far term requirements for higher education. We look forward to your participation in this dialog.
This list has open membership and archives, it is administered by Jonathan Markow.
