Abstract: Open source software, open educational resources, open content, open access, open research, open courseware: “open everything.” Open initiatives share, and benefit from, a vision of communication, collaboration, and community—i.e. connection—promising improved outcomes as organizations transition from consumers to “prosumers.” Understanding and measuring how openness both enables, and relies on, “the power of connections” is critical as campuses investigate the feasibility and viability of open projects and invest in open economies. This presentation will describe a model for individuals and organizations, to not only understand and assess openness within organizations, but also connect authentically and productively in open communities.
