In this exercise you'll make changes to a DLM managed fragment in uPortal. DLM managed fragments are the mechanism for presenting different content to different users by default.

Step 1: Log in as student and notice the lovely Welcome tab

Log in as the user "student", which by default has password "student". (Conveniently, even if you've completed the exercise to change the CAS configuration to authenticate where the username is the same as the password, student's password will still be "student").

Once you've logged in as student, click on the tab named "Welcome". Notice the default content of the tab.

Step 2: Log in as "admin"

Log out of the portal and instead log in as "admin".

Notice the convenient Fragment Administration widget in the lefthand sidebar.

Step 3: Enter the administrative view on the "Welcome" fragment

Pull down to "Welcome" in the lefthand Fragment Administration widget and click "Go".

Step 4: Make the "Welcome" fragment more welcoming

Click "Add Content" to find another portlet to add to this Welcome fragment.

Click the "uPortal" category (left hand listing in the dialog box that appears) to find some promising portlets available to add.

Select the "uPortal Links" portlet (from the right-hand listing of portlets within the selected category).

Click the "Add to my page" button to add the selected portlet.

Step 5: Notice where uPortal added this portlet

You'll find the uPortal Links portlet in the lefthand column below the locked "Welcome" tabbed lorem ipsum example. uPortal put the portlet into the "highest priority" spot available on the page. It couldn't put it in the upper left because the "Welcome" portlet is locked there.

Step 6: Log out

Click "Exit Fragment" in the left hand sidebar to exit administration of the Welcome fragment.

Click "Sign out" at the top to exit the Admin account.

Step 7: Stop and start the portal

This isn't actually necessary in that the caches for this content will soon run out and then the student user would experience the changed fragment without restarting the portal, but to expedite experiencing this change, go ahead and stop and start the portal.

Step 8: Log in again as student / student

Now that the portal's started again, log in as "student".

Step 9: Notice that the managed fragment includes the newly subscribed portlet

Notice that on the Welcome tab as experienced by the Student user, the "uPortal Links" portlet is now included below that locked Welcome example portlet.
