[07:30:55 CST(-0600)] * Tuomaz (n=fredrik@kaffe.umdc.umu.se) has joined ##uportal
[07:31:01 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> Anyone awake?
[07:31:10 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> yes
[07:31:32 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> Hi
[07:31:44 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> hello
[07:32:42 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> We have a uPortal installation in service but has run into a problem
[07:33:01 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> ok
[07:39:06 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> so
[07:39:22 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> Now I have a log file, it would be nice if you could take a look
[07:39:38 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> sure, irc isn't the best for posting files and such
[07:40:02 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> can you email a description of the problem to the jasig-portal email list and I'll see what info I can provide?
[07:42:04 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> Look here: http://jpl.se/~fredrik/log.txt
[07:42:35 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> Our installation has been up for about 2 months, it has been rather stable
[07:43:28 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> we have had some problems with CWebProxy bailing out which we think has to do with some strange character encodings in our html
[07:43:32 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> what version of uPortal is it based on?
[07:43:40 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> 2.5.1
[07:44:09 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> hrm ... you may have a similar issue that we experianced
[07:44:26 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> I believe the default template user is in the Everyone group
[07:44:40 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> so when any new user logs in they are also added to the Everyone group
[07:45:04 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> this is not desired behavior and if you have a large number of unique users will actually cause serious performance problems
[07:45:18 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> Ok
[07:45:38 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> my guess is that a user is logging in that the portal doesn't think has logged in before
[07:45:46 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> yes!
[07:45:58 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> that is the acute problem, no new users are able to log in
[07:46:03 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> Only old users.
[07:46:07 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> the template user is being cloned and the user is being added to the Everyone group, but the the username is already in the Everyone group for some reason
[07:46:22 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> ok
[07:46:31 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> What is the best fix then?
[07:46:47 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> well, you need to remove all users from the Everyone group
[07:47:10 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> but only the users, other groups that are members is ok
[07:47:45 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> if you have a lot of users that have already logged in it may not be possible to use Groups Manager to do this though, there may be too many users for GM to perform acceptably
[07:47:50 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> Should we change the template user also?
[07:48:11 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> yes, the template user should not be part of the Everyone group
[07:48:24 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> Ok.
[07:48:24 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> do you mainly use PAGs for your group memeberships?
[07:51:10 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> I', little unsure about that. I know we use JITLdap for assigning groups when a user logs in...
[07:51:33 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> ok, I'm not as familiar with that group store
[07:52:06 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> you may want to email a summary of this talk to jasig-portal so some of the folks who are more familiar with the groups system can reply
[08:00:24 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> Thanks for your help. We'll try the solution you proposed...
[08:00:42 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> no problem
[08:17:17 CST(-0600)] <esm> hey eric
[08:17:23 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> hey elliot
[08:17:36 CST(-0600)] <esm> morning!
[08:17:47 CST(-0600)] <esm> i see you have been busy (smile)
[08:17:58 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> (smile)
[08:18:16 CST(-0600)] <esm> so i've done some updates to the m2 migration page... what are some good next steps
[08:18:16 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> I still need to get going to work ... I'm still at home working on stuff
[08:18:20 CST(-0600)] <esm> lol!
[08:18:25 CST(-0600)] <esm> ok well i can wait
[08:18:27 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> well I should probably read it
[08:18:28 CST(-0600)] <esm> i'm here all day (smile)
[08:18:32 CST(-0600)] <esm> lol nah
[08:18:38 CST(-0600)] <esm> ok
[08:18:41 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> I'll do that today and add some comments, I'd like to get peter's thoughts too
[08:18:50 CST(-0600)] <esm> ok that sounds good
[08:18:53 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> then we can chat this afternoon about what to do next
[08:18:56 CST(-0600)] <esm> i agree we need peter's input
[08:18:56 CST(-0600)] <esm> ok
[08:19:01 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> if you want to email him for his comments that would be great
[08:19:08 CST(-0600)] <esm> his unicon address?
[08:19:12 CST(-0600)] <esm> the one he uses on jasig dev
[08:19:31 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> yeah
[08:19:51 CST(-0600)] <esm> ok i'll email him. i'm in no hurry (you might be, though) with the holidays arriving
[08:21:37 CST(-0600)] <faizan> morning
[08:21:42 CST(-0600)] <esm> morning faizan
[08:22:03 CST(-0600)] <faizan> How is your uP3 going
[08:22:19 CST(-0600)] <esm> OK. I'm running into some errors rendering portlets
[08:22:35 CST(-0600)] <faizan> Have you deployed your own content in it
[08:22:37 CST(-0600)] <esm> in that, well, none of them render.
[08:22:38 CST(-0600)] <esm> no
[08:22:41 CST(-0600)] <esm> not yet
[08:22:48 CST(-0600)] <esm> i'm just using the sample UP3 rendering context
[08:23:17 CST(-0600)] <esm> the portlet registry is having trouble retrieving the portlet entity
[08:24:29 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> oh ... the sample up3 context is currently non-functioning
[08:24:37 CST(-0600)] <esm> lol
[08:24:38 CST(-0600)] <esm> (smile)
[08:24:39 CST(-0600)] <esm> ok
[08:24:39 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> we need to update the index jsp and remove that link (smile)
[08:24:48 CST(-0600)] <esm> whew
[08:24:56 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> the plans are all around the up2 context for the foreseeable future
[08:25:00 CST(-0600)] <esm> ok
[08:25:13 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> partly because we need more time from the uiue folks to work out all the 'cool' features of the up3 context
[08:25:23 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> back in a little bit
[08:25:23 CST(-0600)] <esm> sure that makes sense
[08:26:21 CST(-0600)] <esm> I get this: http://rafb.net/paste/results/pqIauy30.html in each portlet in the up3 context
[08:28:07 CST(-0600)] <esm> and this stacktrace in portal.log http://rafb.net/paste/results/59tyOx47.html
[08:28:15 CST(-0600)] <esm> but I will now go back to the up2 context (smile)
[08:31:18 CST(-0600)] <faizan> Yes this is funny the uP3 context does not work
[08:58:45 CST(-0600)] <dalman> whoa. stray control characters.
[08:59:38 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> EricDalqui[away]: the problem we had was caused by a broken ldap-server
[09:00:02 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> EricDalqui[away]: when the ldap server was fixed and the portal tomcat was restarted all work fine.
[09:03:08 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> good to hear Tuomaz
[09:03:15 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> at least it is fixed (smile)
[09:05:49 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> Yes, (smile)
[09:09:27 CST(-0600)] <Tuomaz> Our portal contains UBC Webmail, Esup-portail Fileserver and a portlet developed by us to show students their study results
[09:10:05 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> back in a bit folks
[09:45:53 CST(-0600)] * EricDalquist (n=dalquist@bohemia.doit.wisc.edu) has joined ##uportal
[09:50:26 CST(-0600)] <esm> eric in the roadmap talk, where ajax dnd was demo'ed, was that using the up3 or up2 ctx?
[09:50:32 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> up2
[09:50:37 CST(-0600)] <esm> k thx
[10:14:12 CST(-0600)] * dmccallum (n=dmccallu@uni1.unicon.net) has joined ##uportal
[10:30:49 CST(-0600)] <faizan> Any news on GAPS
[10:44:01 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> not yet (sad)
[12:09:54 CST(-0600)] <faizan> (sad) (sad)
[12:10:14 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> sorry faizan ... we're having some more issues here that I'm having to deal with
[12:10:57 CST(-0600)] <faizan> OK that is fine
[12:11:21 CST(-0600)] <faizan> I am going to try UBC-WEBMAIL
[12:11:33 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> ok ... have fun (smile)
[12:11:47 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> I don't think the adapter supports privledged channels though
[12:25:34 CST(-0600)] * jayshao (n=chatzill@nat01-asb-ext.Rutgers.EDU) has joined ##uportal
[12:25:45 CST(-0600)] <jayshao> hey Eric
[12:25:58 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> hey jayshao
[12:26:04 CST(-0600)] <jayshao> have you ever tried deploying uP3 into a context other than /uP3 ?
[12:26:29 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> nope
[12:26:34 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> and I bet it doesn't work does it
[12:26:46 CST(-0600)] <jayshao> well...
[12:26:54 CST(-0600)] <jayshao> all kinds of bad things seem to happen...
[12:28:06 CST(-0600)] <jayshao> trying to decide whether fighting with uP3 is easier, or fighting with our networking setup to get it to accept /uP3 is easier
[12:28:14 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> hrm
[12:36:38 CST(-0600)] <jayshao> well, at least working with our networking folks is a known quantity... generally...
[13:14:55 CST(-0600)] <faizan> Eric quick question
[13:15:04 CST(-0600)] <faizan> you know all my questions are usually quick
[13:15:13 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> (smile)
[13:15:14 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> ok
[13:16:32 CST(-0600)] <faizan> org.jasig.portal.channels.webmail.security.IOpaqueCredentials is referenced from UBC webmail code.
[13:16:47 CST(-0600)] <faizan> Do you know if we have replacement for this
[13:16:57 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> I don't
[13:17:15 CST(-0600)] <faizan> Our OpaqueCredentials interface stores password or passphrase information
[13:17:17 CST(-0600)] <faizan> * for authentication. The same structure stores information that can
[13:17:18 CST(-0600)] <faizan> * potentially be used post-authentication to keep Kerberos TGT's or other
[13:17:20 CST(-0600)] <faizan> * useful security context authenticators.
[13:17:25 CST(-0600)] <faizan> This is the java doc
[13:17:48 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> Unless it is in the up2api jar there probably isn't one
[13:18:02 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> the up3 framework doesn't provide any way to store the credentials right now unless acegi does
[13:33:40 CST(-0600)] <faizan> OK the by default ACEGI does not provide credentials
[13:33:47 CST(-0600)] <faizan> sorry does not store
[13:50:20 CST(-0600)] <faizan> How about PortalControlStructures, is ther any replacement for this one
[13:54:23 CST(-0600)] <faizan> Eric
[14:25:46 CST(-0600)] <faizan> Eric: do you know org.jasig.portal.services.GroupService has a replacement
[15:09:22 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> hey faizan
[15:09:29 CST(-0600)] <faizan> yes
[15:09:34 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> there isn't a replacement for that in the GAP jar
[15:09:44 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> DanE may be working on one for uP2 compatibility
[15:09:52 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> but I don't know for sure
[15:10:09 CST(-0600)] <faizan> I think I have found it
[15:11:07 CST(-0600)] <faizan> I will probably email DanE to make sure I got it right since I have so many errors and I dont think I will be able to run webmail but I still want to update my notes on the wiki
[15:13:36 CST(-0600)] <EricDalquist> ok
[15:31:32 CST(-0600)] <faizan> Eric: Is ther any chance to get to GAP today or tomorrow
[15:31:51 CST(-0600)] <faizan> Check this out: http://www.ja-sig.org/wiki/display/UP3/required+channel+support
