[2006-09-19 12:56:18] <EricDalquist> brad, how are you approaching having maven deploy uP3?
[2006-09-19 12:56:26] <EricDalquist> are we going to have some custom maven2 plugins?
[2006-09-19 12:56:52] <bszabo> I have not spent much time looking at that at the moment
[2006-09-19 12:58:10] <EricDalquist> ok more just a curiosity question than anything at this point, although I'm wondering if some of the refactoring tasks (like removing the JDOM dependency) would make that task easier
[2006-09-19 12:58:41] <bszabo> I was thinking about just using maven-antrun-plugin to basically call tasks such as deploy in a maven-ant-tasks.xml which would derive from the existing build.xml... just to get something out there.
[2006-09-19 13:02:33] <EricDalquist> sounds goood
[2006-09-19 13:04:06] <bszabo> The maven-tomcat-plugin is an option, but it uses the Tomcat Admin and would still need additional steps to deploy the context file and the shared libs

[2006-09-19 13:25:31] <EricDalquist> One thought that I know had been brought up before was packaging uPortal 3 as an EAR (really thats what it is now with multiple webapps & shared libraries)
[2006-09-19 13:25:46] <EricDalquist> then if needed creating a EAR deployment tool for tomcat, which shouldn't be too difficult
[2006-09-19 13:25:53] <EricDalquist> it would also make deploying to other containers easier
[2006-09-19 13:27:52] <bszabo> Interesting. Sounds like a flexible approach. I have yet to write a maven plugin, but that sure sounds like a great intro!
[2006-09-19 13:28:34] <EricDalquist> and I'd be supprised if their wasn't a maven plugin already to generate the EARs so all we'd likely need to do is the EAR -> tomcat code
[2006-09-19 13:34:42] <bszabo> There is a maven-ear-plugin, so you are correct, we would just would need a plugin to decompose that and deploy it into a non JavaEE Server. Actually, I think that is a bit of overkill. We can add a maven-ear-plugin to package uP3 as an EAR, but then have a separate deployment process for non-JavaEE AS containers such as Tomcat. Interesting. I will have to look at that.

[2006-09-19 13:47:44] <ajanovski> i haven't used IRC for 8 years, but back then on Undernet, when I was the admin of a channel, there was a list of users that would automatically get op'ed when entering
[2006-09-19 13:48:22] <EricDalquist> I think I had set the JASIGLogBot user's level too high
[2006-09-19 13:48:52] <EricDalquist> freenode has this numerical level concept for different chanserv abilities, one is autoop and I set the bot's level above that
[2006-09-19 13:53:32] <ajanovski> ah yes, I forgot that this channel is not really registered
[2006-09-19 13:53:44] <EricDalquist> actually it is now
[2006-09-19 13:54:09] <EricDalquist> I think we ok to do that according to the freenode faq
[2006-09-19 13:54:31] <EricDalquist> hopefully we can establish some pretty steady usage and move to a normal #uportal channel eventually

[2006-09-19 16:20:04] <bszabo> So Peter, would you mind enlightening me a little on how PermissionsManager should behave given the declarative nature of Acegi. Are you envisioning the continued use of IPermissible, and hence the RDBMPermissibleRegistry to maintain what portlets/channels can register permissions to be applied by the portal?
[2006-09-19 16:20:28] * dmccallum (n=dmccallu@uni1.unicon.net) has left ##uportal
[2006-09-19 16:21:29] <bszabo> I am a little behind on all of this and I am trying to better understand the design plans, since I am working on PermissionsManager Portlet
[2006-09-19 16:21:39] <peterk> ACEGI only deals with authrization checking ... not setting the permissions
[2006-09-19 16:22:12] <peterk> IPermissible is a construct that helps to delegate permission management (i.e. setting permissions) to the Permission Manager portlet
[2006-09-19 16:22:26] <peterk> so it's independent of what we're doing with ACEGI
[2006-09-19 16:26:05] <peterk> So in other words, there are no great plans around IPermissible. We should poll on -dev list to see if there are any suggestions on how it can be improved, but it seem to have worked well in uP2.

[2006-09-19 16:28:23] <peterk> where?
[2006-09-19 16:28:50] <bszabo> JA_SIG dev
[2006-09-19 16:29:20] <peterk> he asked about IAuthorizationService, which is a bit more general from IPermissible
[2006-09-19 16:29:28] <peterk> or at least different
[2006-09-19 16:32:00] <bszabo> There was a bit of discussion about IPermissible though http://search.gmane.org/?query=IPermissible&group=gmane.comp.java.jasig.uportal.devel
[2006-09-19 16:32:25] <bszabo> I guess it was Andrew that started it
[2006-09-19 16:33:15] <peterk> ok.
[2006-09-19 16:35:01] <peterk> So have you guys decided to redo permission manager UI/flow, or just redo more-or-less the same screens using Spring Portlet MVC?
[2006-09-19 16:35:33] <peterk> because the changes to IPermissible at this point infulence only permission manager portlet
[2006-09-19 16:37:44] <bszabo> It has essentially come down to same screens using Spring Portlet MVC
