Minutes

  • Attendance
We discussed a desire to publicize these meetings a bit more and build momentum for this group. Having additional resources would help as well.
  • jasig.org
We have secured the jasig.org domain and it now redirects to ja-sig.org. The board has expressed an interest in possibly re-branding the organization. "Java Architectures" no longer best aligns with what we do. Getting rid of the hyphen can help with the branding. It is recognized that it would take significant work to re-brand and revise the website, etc.

Andrew suggested that if we are looking at re-branding, we may want to consider options beyond simply removing the hyphen. Jonathan says that could be discussed when we have the re-branding conversation.

The current jasig.org mapping does not display URL locations in the browser as one would expect.

  • JA-SIG Member, Associate, and Commercial Affiliate logos
Jonathan believes there are entities that would like to support JA-SIG but not become full members. This new Associate category allows for that ($500, $2500). We may want logos to differentiate these different groups. The logos could be used by the members, affiliates and associates. The board needs to decide if there needs to be one, two or three logos.

Who could come up with these logos? Jonathan will ask the Webpresence group first, once the number has been decided.

  • Review proposed updates to flavor text on uportal.org homepage. Go / No Go on executing change.
Bill's version onĀ New uPortal.org homepage will be amended to specifically reference JSR 168. Jonathan will ask John to update it.
  • Pending website news update requests
    • Combined uP 2.6 / CAS 3.1 press release
    • Unicon uP training announcement
  • Web presence for UnConference
Once the details have been determined, we will leverage the web site and wiki page Winter 2007 to market the event. We are hoping to have it tied down next week. We will then start marketing via email and the web.

We will want to market to the usual suspects. We may also want to market to the local Java enthusiasts (e.g., New Brunswick JUG, Rutger's IT community, other schools).

We should identify key topics/technologies that we wish to cover and then identify experts within the community that would be available to contribute.

  • Continue web improvement "low hanging fruit" discussion
We should look at the most fruitful dynamic elements to add, particularly looking towards being prepared to make the most of the UnConference. Jonathan likes the idea of blogs and podcasting. Jonathan could do interviews. These may be particularly interesting to new adopters. Andrew suggests we get one piece (e.g., blogs) up and running. Talk with Jason to see where he left off. Roller may have the capability to aggregate blogs from other sources that are topic relevant. Jonathan will talk to Jason.

Jonathan is also looking into helping produce case studies and making those available on the web as well as in print. It would be more narrative than the couple that were added to Home. This will help dispel myths about JA-SIG projects and highlight their strengths.
