Original suggestions for topics

  • Report from Executive Director
  • Report from Dallas conference
  • "Future Portal": Many of us feel that the time is ripe to consider whether the portal will continue to play a vital role in organizations.  Is the portal-as-campus-gateway construct itself still a critical function for higher education constituents?  Does the portalUI speak to current expectations of a desktop interface?  Is the purpose of aggregating distributed content from all corners of the institution within one interface still important?  Is there a role for the portal in SOA applications?  Do underlying portal frameworks need to evolve to serve new requirements?  To embrace new technologies?  Jasig has been having recent discussions on these topics, and I'd like to both summarize what people have been saying as well as get feedback from the UK institutions.  -Jonathan Markow
  •  "Authentication and Access control"   for portals, what are the considerations for setting up and/or modernising login systems and role based access control. What impact does federated access control have on portals? What impact does federated application provision (e.g. google apps for edu, live@edu, ejournals) have on portals and what is the best way to adapt or defend the portal role? -Caleb Racey
