uPortal diversity and inclusion

As part of an effort to grow the uPortal community, the uPortal Steering Committee reached out to Sage Sharp, an open source diversity and inclusion advisor. Both new and outgoing members spent 45 minutes discussing how to increase diversity and inclusion and make the uPortal project more welcoming. Sage offered a number of suggestions including:

  • Establish a welcoming committee
  • Look at lowering barriers to attending conferences
  • Look at various ways to facilitate mentorship for new contributors
  • Broaden our own individual networks with diversity in mind
  • Improve the code of conduct complaint process

Possible next steps include:

  • Reaching out to previous- or non-committers to ask about their experience and perceptions
  • Follow up on suggested improvements to the Apereo Code of Conduct
  • Look at ways we can as individuals reach out to new communities

uPortal Winter Summit

This will be held in Gilbert, AZ January 29-21, 2019. Planning is continuing and details as they evolve will continue to be available in the collaborative google doc. Space may be limited so attendees are encouraged to sign up early.

Migrating remaining legacy Jasig resources

We briefly discussed what we need to do to retire the current servers hosting legacy Jasig resources. Jim and Drew will discuss details in the near future.
