Renaming CAS

While discussing marketing materials for the upcoming ACAMP conference, Scott, Eric, and Benn floated the idea of renaming CAS.

Renaming would only apply to CAS4 and later.

Justification

  • Increasing inappropriateness of having the word "authentication" in the name of a product that will be doing more than just authentication

  • Difficulty of finding CAS at the top of search results

  • Changing the name would also give a clear separation between the server and protocol (the protocol would remain CAS regardless of what the server changes to)

Next Steps

  • Decide if it's a good idea to do a renaming

  • If we decide yes, then we can go about figuring out an alternate name
