Now that you've been successfully in production with CAS for a while, what are your reflections on the project? What has gone well? What could go better? Where are you going next with your project?

Adam Rybicki

Currently doing CAS consulting work, long history with JA-SIG and with uPortal, had a brief but interesting hiatus to work with OpenEAI/OpenII and so has perspective on a non-community-source open source model. Adam's a nice pick in that he's recently doing a bunch of CAS work, yet he's a long-time JA-SIG community member from back before CAS was a JA-SIG project and so has that long JA-SIG history. Hits both CAS and uPortal. Also, he's got a reasonably interesting JA-SIG story in the evolution of IBS-->Unicon. He even wandered off to work on OpenEAI/OpenII for a while. So he could have a nice interview about how he got involved in JA-SIG stuff, how he's watched uPortal evolve, his adventures in OpenEAI/OpenII and a constrasting perspective on non-community-source open source for a while, and his most recent work with CAS (maybe even commenting on the evolution of CAS since some older consulting work he did with the Yale CAS distro), culminating with a gentle pitch for the upcoming JA-SIG conference (Adam's very into quality beer. I suggest someone prevail upon him to do some St. Paul brewpub research and suggest venues for that for our upcoming conference.) Also, Adam recently did some training/consulting at St. Paul Public Schools, so he could probably work a few words into this feature about enjoyable things about visiting St. Paul, again connecting nicely to the upcoming conference.

Alain Mayeur, a member of the JA-SIG board of directors, is IT Director at the University of Valenciennes. Alain is a leader and one of the founders of the ESUP-Portail consortium, a group of approximately eighty French institutions collaborating on community source efforts based around uPortal.
