[10:26:36 CDT(-0500)] <athena1> EricDalquist: i tried to create a local account to add some information for a user that's in LDAP

[10:26:46 CDT(-0500)] <athena1> that in theory should work right? it's supposed to merge all the attributes?

[10:26:53 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> huh?

[10:27:02 CDT(-0500)] <athena1> err, uportal person directory

[10:27:12 CDT(-0500)] <athena1> have a test user in LDAP that doesn't have much information

[10:27:21 CDT(-0500)] <athena1> tried creating a local user w/ the same username and more attributes

[10:27:22 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> ah

[10:27:30 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> right it should merge if you have PD setup right

[10:27:39 CDT(-0500)] <athena1> ok

[10:27:44 CDT(-0500)] <athena1> presumably something is Not Right

[10:27:52 CDT(-0500)] <athena1> but wanted to make sure i at least understood what that was supposed to do

[10:30:27 CDT(-0500)] <b-rock> Hi EricDalquist. good morning. following up from the wiki notes https://wiki.jasig.org/display/UPM40/Upgrade+Data+Import I"ve got all of the data imported with the exception of an unknown amout of user layouts. I'm getting this trace http://pastebin.com/VEi84Tbz which I can work around if I remove all but the root "folder" elements.

[10:32:53 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> hrm

[10:33:21 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> any chance you could package up your fragment layouts and that user's layout and post it somewhere?

[10:33:30 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> I'm taking the rest of the day off here soon

[10:34:01 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> but next week I can take a look and see whats up with the import

[10:35:46 CDT(-0500)] <b-rock> shoot. booted off freenode.

[10:36:50 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> any chance you could package up your fragment layouts and that user's layout and post it somewhere?

[10:36:51 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> I'm taking the rest of the day off here soon

[10:36:51 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> but next week I can take a look and see whats up with the import

[10:37:52 CDT(-0500)] <b-rock> I can.

[10:39:06 CDT(-0500)] <b-rock> well I already deleted that users inner folder elements and the import succeded for that user, but it seems to happen for each 4th or 5th import.

[10:39:34 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> yeah

[10:39:51 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> there is probably some bug with pruning old channels or dlm path ref lookups

[10:40:08 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> it should either fail with a good error or warn about pruning data

[10:40:14 CDT(-0500)] <b-rock> ok.

[10:41:10 CDT(-0500)] <b-rock> I'd love to try to dig into that area of the code to debug further, but seems like there is a substantial amount of ramp up / learning curve time for the import process.

[10:41:41 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> well the import process itself is much simpler code wise in up4

[10:41:44 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> for most thihngs

[10:41:52 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> layout management code is still from 2.5

[10:41:58 CDT(-0500)] <b-rock> yeah.

[10:42:03 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> with vestiges of stuff from 2.0

[10:42:16 CDT(-0500)] <b-rock> wow

[10:42:29 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> it is next on the plate to be re-written

[10:42:38 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> what is there now is very functional

[10:42:47 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> but very difficult to extend, maintain and debug

[10:42:59 CDT(-0500)] <b-rock> yeah I can see from the lists and relase notes and such that youve been rewriting a lot of that

[10:43:25 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> yeah, moving to JPA2 for persistence and a lot of other new technologies which simplify a lot of things

[10:43:31 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> layouts are next on the list

[10:43:36 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> and groups & attributes after that

[10:43:46 CDT(-0500)] <b-rock> thats great for the future.

[10:44:18 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> yeah

[10:44:25 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> wish we had more time to make it happen faster (smile)

[10:44:41 CDT(-0500)] <b-rock> is a 3mb zipped file too big to send to you via email?

[10:44:48 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> no that should be fine

[10:45:15 CDT(-0500)] <b-rock> ok. I' think I have your email in my history some where. I'll dig it up and send to you.

[10:45:24 CDT(-0500)] <EricDalquist> eric.dalquist@doit.wisc.eduy
