[10:36:43 EDT(-0400)] <gabfal> Hi all, do you know if there is a channel on CAS? Anyway, I wonder if there is a standard solution to the problem of having to create a session to cache the result of redirecting to CAS in gateway mode for users that are not logged in. Since my site rely heavily on caching for users that are not logged in I don't want to create a session just to record "The user is not logged in" since that will stop the pages from being cached. Is there a simple alter
[10:38:30 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> I don't think there is a CAS IRC channel but they do have mailing lists

[10:44:27 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> i think a couple of those were created late last week
[10:44:31 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> yeah
[10:44:38 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> I'm going to look at the two portlet issues first
[10:45:14 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> if you or anyone else has time to look at http://www.ja-sig.org/issues/browse/UP-2084 it would be much appreciated

[10:46:19 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> is the channel really designed to be local users only?
[10:46:32 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> probably not intentionally
[10:46:38 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> (smile)
[10:47:24 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> if i do find some time i'll try and see if i can recreate the problem

[14:06:21 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> hrm ...
[14:06:50 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> struts-bridge doesn't appear to by as JSR-168 nice as it claims
[14:07:23 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> the struts 1 thing?
[14:09:09 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> no sure what struts it is ...
[14:09:20 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> it is portals-bridge 1.0.4
[14:09:32 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> the struts-1 version was always kind of a hack, no matter what they wanted to say about it.
[14:09:41 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> their page says JSR-168 compliant
[14:09:48 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> but they rely on access to the real servlet objects
[14:09:52 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> yeah
[14:09:58 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> http://www.ja-sig.org/issues/browse/UP-2069
[14:10:20 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> an issue about how access to those objects isn't consistent with the servlet spec when accessed from inside a portlet ...
[14:10:35 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> the more I read into the code for the bridge I'm tempted to just close as won't-fix
[14:10:56 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> since I don't want to fix it again if we decided to re-arrange the request/response wrappers
[14:10:57 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> i would feel the same way
[14:11:03 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> which shouldn't matter to any portlet
[14:12:37 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> yeah
[14:12:40 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> that's not cool
[14:13:12 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> I just emailed Mark explaining my understanding and inviting discussion of this on uportal-dev
[14:13:20 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> but I'm going to un-mark this for 3.0.1
[14:13:30 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> and hopefully just close it won't-fix later this week
[14:13:34 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> sounds good
[14:13:52 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> since yeah ... accessing those objects is most definitely not JSR-168 compliant
[14:14:02 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> http://portals.apache.org/bridges/multiproject/portals-bridges-struts/index.html
[14:14:11 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> unlike the first like of their website says
[14:14:48 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> I just noticed we have 3 Andrews today, did Unicon finally break down and start cloning him?
[14:17:52 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> it's to go along with his 4 computers at his desk, even though he only uses one at a time. and I think 2 never get used.
[14:18:04 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> similar, there's 3 andrews here, but only one of them is good for anything
[14:20:01 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> lol
[14:27:15 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> @$!@$#!@#$
[14:27:29 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> this is the WORST ternary expresion I think I've seen:
[14:27:38 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> this.dataHandler.getUser((channelRuntimeData
[14:27:38 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> .getParameter(Constants.FORMCHOSEN) == null ? (channelRuntimeData
[14:27:38 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> .getParameter(Constants.UNFIELD) == null ? (String) channelStaticData.getPerson()
[14:27:38 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> .getAttribute(Constants.ATTRUSERNAME) : channelRuntimeData.getParameter(Constants.UNFIELD))
[14:27:38 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> : channelRuntimeData.getParameter(Constants.FORMCHOSEN)))
[14:27:44 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> ow
[14:27:56 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> how is that readable?
[14:28:01 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> it isn't?
[14:32:19 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> so that apparently translates into: http://uportal.pastebin.com/m65a416b9
[14:41:51 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> wow that looks a lot more readable
[14:42:09 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> so the problem with the user manager is the default display
[14:42:29 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> when you first view the channel it looks 'you' up to display your info
[14:42:30 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> default display?
[14:42:41 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> which breaks if you are not in up_person_dir
[14:42:42 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> and it can't find you if you're not a local user?
[14:42:46 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> yeah
[14:42:48 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> really dump
[14:42:50 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> dumb*
[14:42:53 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> and easy to fix
[14:42:55 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> shouldn't it be able to?
[14:43:00 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> yeah that doesn't sound pretty fixable (smile)
[14:43:14 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> well since it is designed to manage the up_person_dir table
[14:43:16 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> or i guess it's really only designed to edit local users, huh?
[14:43:17 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> that's where it looks
[14:43:17 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> yueah
[14:43:39 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> what do we want it to do?
[14:43:48 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> if it doesn't find you, can it just default to the select user screen?
[14:43:54 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> seems like that would be the most useful option
[14:43:58 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> hrm
[14:44:03 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> that's a good idea
[14:44:12 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> rather than just selecting a random user
[14:44:25 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> or we could just default to the select a user screen all the time
[14:44:25 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> I was just going to leave it blank
[14:44:31 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> but the search user screen is a better idea
[14:45:03 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> this would be a great channel for someone wanting to learn spring jdbs/portlets to re-write
[14:45:30 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> yes
[14:45:46 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> even better if it included optional features to self-register
[14:45:50 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> create account
[14:45:53 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> email lost password
[14:45:54 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> etc.
[14:45:55 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> yup
[14:46:23 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> you wouldn't happen to have a minute to write that up on the wiki would you (wink)
[14:46:32 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> not right now, anyway (tongue)
[14:46:42 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> me either (smile)
[14:46:45 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> yeah
[14:47:19 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> http://www.ja-sig.org/wiki/display/UPC/Google+Summer+of+Code+and+uPortal
[14:47:29 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> there I at least created a placeholder link and stuck our names next to it
[14:47:34 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> oh cool
[14:50:58 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> ok, i just removed some lies from the uportal manual
[14:51:10 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> yay, fewer lies is better
[14:51:18 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> i guess they weren't lies since it did say 2.6 on the page
[14:51:21 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> but still (smile)
[14:51:23 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> yeah
[15:10:53 EDT(-0400)] <MarkRogers> would you be against adding external hyperlinks for terms like "Spring beans"?
[15:11:00 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> nope
[15:11:17 EDT(-0400)] <MarkRogers> which would be familiar to all of you, but perhaps not to others
[15:11:22 EDT(-0400)] <MarkRogers> http://static.springframework.org/spring/docs/1.2.x/reference/beans.html
[15:11:45 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> http://static.springframework.org/spring/docs/2.5.x/reference/beans.html
[15:12:05 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> we use Spring 2.5 for uPortal, not sure how much is different in the docs but we should probably link to the correct verison
[15:17:57 EDT(-0400)] <MarkRogers> of course ... I was just googlin'
[15:26:21 EDT(-0400)] <MarkRogers> hope that looks okay

[16:24:39 EDT(-0400)] <agherna> well, there was some stuff in web.xml that was kind of old and, I think the term is, "crufty"...
[16:24:58 EDT(-0400)] <agherna> when you take all that away and you redeploy, you get better results.

[17:03:15 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> there isn't a way to tell where you got a jar from is there?
[17:04:23 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> like check in the repo?
[17:04:27 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> or check where it came from?
[17:04:48 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> check where it came from in my local repo
[17:04:57 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> i have a copy, wondered if there was a way to tell where i got it from
[17:05:15 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> I don't think so
[17:05:24 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> I can find out though via our m2 proxy
[17:05:26 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> yeah i didn't see any interesting metadata
[17:06:36 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> better yet, does anyone have the file, they could send to me, so I could just put it in my .m2 repo to get by this error, for the moment.
[17:07:23 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> yes
[17:07:54 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> i s'pose the pom file will be necessary as well
[17:08:16 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> man, i cant even get www.codehaus.org to come up to see if they have a downtime announcement.
[17:09:41 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> sent
[17:09:53 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> ty
[17:09:58 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> yep
[17:10:21 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> did you sen the pom file too?
[17:10:27 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> i don't seem to have one
[17:10:31 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> ok
[17:10:42 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> the jar is the only thing in that directory tree
[17:11:22 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> is the directory path, "javax.script" or "javax/script" ?
[17:11:45 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> javax/script/groovy-engine/1.0/
[17:12:00 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> the distinction between / and . always confuses me
[17:12:50 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> yeah, i'm sure there's a reason for how it gets determined, but.... it's never been worth my time to figure it out
[17:13:52 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> .s in the groupid are turned into /
[17:14:02 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> simply to reduce the number of files in a single directory
[17:14:24 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> that was a big problem in maven1
[17:14:32 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> the root of the repo got HUGE
[17:14:39 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> that makes sense
[17:15:18 EDT(-0400)] * holdorph shakes his fist at codehaus. why do you hate me?
[17:15:44 EDT(-0400)] * EricDalquist thinks Unicon would likely benefit from a local m2 proxy
[17:16:06 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> unfortunately i'm at home. and cox internet, well it's been bad lately.
[17:16:19 EDT(-0400)] * holdorph is looking after a sick dog.
[17:16:50 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> ah
[17:16:53 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> :/
[17:17:23 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> oh, poor dog (sad)
[17:17:38 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> i'm really looking forward to ditching my cable service
[17:17:44 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> getting much, much faster dsl for the same price
[17:17:45 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> anyone have a working up3.0 branch head build?
[17:17:57 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> i have another broken dep
[17:18:07 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> probably another codehaus dep (sad)
[17:18:10 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> i'm sure it's codehaus fault.
[17:18:37 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> yup, just wondering if I can get a copy of the javax.script dir, from someone who's build is working.
[17:19:23 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> missing 3) javax.script:script-api:jar:jdk14:1.0
[17:19:23 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> at the moment
[17:19:29 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> yes
[17:21:25 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> done
[17:22:35 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> ty again
[17:24:02 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> np
[17:24:39 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> looks like those are the only two deps from codehaus
[17:25:06 EDT(-0400)] * holdorph shakes his fist at codehaus again, for good measure.
[17:25:17 EDT(-0400)] <athena7> you tell it!
[17:50:18 EDT(-0400)] <holdorph> Eric, do you think it would make sense to put a copy of those 2 jars in the ja-sig repository (essentially 'mirror' them)?
[17:51:01 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> yeah, that would likely be a good idea
[17:51:17 EDT(-0400)] <EricDalquist> I'll have to find some time to go look at the licenses
