To make sure we're all talking about the same thing, terms used throughout are defined here. Where possible, they adhere to standard definitions or common practices.

  • CID (Card ID): The identifier that uniquely identifies an ID Card. Usually bound to an IUID via a lookup.

  • ePPN (eduPersonPrincipalName): As defined by eduPerson, the "NetID" of the person for the purposes of inter-institutional authentication. It should be represented in the form "user@scope" where scope defines a local security domain.
  • IUID (Institutional Unique ID): A per-institution identifier that uniquely, and with as much persistence as possible, identifies an individual. Often introduced as part of an SSN elimination effort.
