The uPortal project requires that new channels and portlets proposed for inclusion in the core release deliverables also support these browsers.
Support does not imply that all uPortal code be tested against all supported browsers before release (although it would not be discouraged), but that reported problems specific to supported browsers be given a high priority for resolution.
Interest in and development to extend support beyond these core browsers is also welcome, but is a project scope increase for which a little more discussion is warranted. Contrastingly, development to improve support for a supported web browser will require less discussion – - defects of support for named browsers are outright bugs. This is what it means for the uPortal project to support particular browsers.
